    Solved Spare Tire Cable Inspection

Happened to me the other week! Hi gang- Luckily, I was just pulling out of a parking lot (5 mph) when I heard/felt a thunk. I wondered what it was, and when I looked in the rear view mirror, there was my spare sitting in the middle of the road. D'oh! Earlier that afternoon, I was...

Strange no start issue- Bat. cable?

Fixed! :) It turns out the battery was dead... waaaaay dead. Not that I'm that old or wise, but I've never seen a battery go completely dead between starts. It wasn't slow in starting up leading up to this. Funny thing is that it showed a 12V charge at the parts store but it came up dead on...

Thanks for the quick replies, guys. I'll check on those in the a.m.

Strange no start issue- Bat. cable?

One more thing about the relay clicking The relay inside the truck on the driver's side would click whether the key was in the ignition or not. I ended up unplugging the neg battery cable before I left it tonight in case something *really* wrong would cause it to catch fire or something...

Strange no start issue- Bat. cable?

Sorry this is kinda long- I wanted to post as many details as possible. Truck: '00 XLT, 4.0 OHV, 74K miles, been running/starting fine until tonight Situation: Came out of the grocery store and tried starting. Engine would not turn over, no click-click-click, nada. I suspected a dead...

    IAC problem?

I think that will definitely do the trick. I hobbled up to the Ford dealership at lunch to pick up the part... And the truck was still misbehaving. I left my tools at home (first mistake) so I grabbed a pair of pliers and a piece 'o s&*t vise-grips out of the toolbox from our office with...

    IAC problem?

Good morning, ladies and gents! I've searched the board and I'm pretty sure the IAC needs to be replaced but wanted to run the symptoms by the gurus first... The X is a '00 XLT with the 4.0 OHV engine. Approx 49K miles. This only happens every once in a while, and especially when it's...

    Embarassing MAS experience

Yeah- the X is a little more responsive on acceleration now. I've found that cleaning the MAS and resetting the computer every couple of months seems to keep things going well. Maybe it's a mental thing, but a lot of people here seem to do the same... I would recommend it if you haven't...

    Embarassing MAS experience

Allright- I feel like a total dumb@ss! This afternoon, I removed the negative battery cable, removed the MAS, cleaned it, re-connected the battery, started her up and let her run for 5 minutes before doing anything. I was hoping to resolve some sluggish acceleration and some pinging-type...

Going rate for 30K mile service?

Hi gang- I just got the 30K mile service on my '00 XLT. I was slightly shocked at the bottom line when I picked it up... last week, when I called to schedule the appointment, the guy said it should be around $300. It topped out at $460 today! Here's what they did- Oil/filter Fuel filter...

Modified the old air box today...

I used a hole-cutter bit with a drill (bit is a circular cup with teeth). Some people have used boring bits (a flat bit with a sharp point) but I think some people may have cracked the box using those. But Dremels kick butt too! I didn't put too many holes in at first because I didn't want...

Does the chick from Dark Angel come standard?

I like the way you think! Hey- maybe the "ass-tec" started as an April Fool's Day joke around the Pontiac design shop... and then went downhill from there!

MPG- AC vs. Rollin' down the windows

I was wondering the other night as I was running a few errands enjoying the nice 60ish degree weather we've been having: Does anyone have some good hard scientific results as to when it makes more sense (from a MPG perspective)to roll up the windows on a nice day and turn on the AC? You...

Does the chick from Dark Angel come standard?

The first time I saw one of those Aztecs was in the show Dark Angel (I think it's on FOX) and I thought it looked kinda cool and futuristic- especially since it's supposed to take place in like 2025. Then I was really surprised to see them on the road! What's next- a 4x4 VW Bug...

Modified the old air box today...

And man, does the X sound sweet! I was really pleased with the way it turned out. There's been a strange noise that's been bugging me lately but now I'm figuring it was just the noise of a straining intake. But now... it's got a bit of a roar going on up there with the silencer tube removed...

Who has a '97+ with the OHV?

I have a '00 XLT with 24,000 miles and strong as a bull. This may sound stupid, but it was the last red exterior/gray interior on the lot- the OHV came along with it :) But looking back, I'm kinda glad I didn't get the SOHC because of all the problems listed on this kick-butt site.

    Another Carbon Buildup Post...

Hi all- Just got the X back from the 24k mile checkup. I had them check into the noise that I've been obsessing about lately- kind of a cross between a tick and a knock under load. After comparing these sounds to a "normal" OHV engine (don't know how they do that) they determined that it...

    Engine noise

Just out of curiosity, does she have the OHV or the SOHC engine? There have been TONS of posts on here about the rattling/marbling during cold startups- all relating to this "carbon buildup". To my knowledge, nobody has found a good long-term fix for this one... seems this "feature" is by...

    Pinging Solved! Question though.

Wow... I'm starting to think that that's what's happening to my X. It sounds like a knock or a ping, but again only under heavier acceleration (from a complete stop or up a hill). Otherwise, it's pretty smooth. And it's too damn new to be engine problems (I hope!) I started to think that...

    Design a dash....

How about a HUD (Heads Up Display) if they could perfect it? And an audible warning for police radar in the area. That's what I get for seeing "Behind Enemy Lines" last weekend. I'd also like to see the shifter moved from the column down to the center console but still leave room for a...

    Angry any suggestions

Which dealer did you take it to? Koons in 7 Corners? I went there once just to see if they could squeeze me in for a quick oil change. I stood in the service advisor area for 15 minutes and nobody even said 'hello'. I had some trouble with Kilmans here in Tysons as well... I could be...

    Check fuel cap warning light

I had the same thing happen to my '00 XLT at 500 miles. The dealer accused me of not tightening the cap enough after gassing up, and at the time, I thought it could have been possible.... until it happened again at 6000 miles. Then I had them check it out again during an oil change and it...

Where to Fly Red White Blue

Hmmmmm.... That's why I decided just to go with the red, white and blue ribbons on the antenna. Not only were flags darn near impossible to find back when all the schmidt hit the fan, but the fraying ribbons don't look as blasphemous as a fraying/fading flag. There are a lot of those flying...

Where to Fly Red White Blue

What about some threaded rod with a washer and a nut on both sides of the hole in the bumper? I don't have a hitch on mine, just the stock hole for the ball-type mount. Get the rod thick enough so that it won't bend too much but if it does, it'll bend *away* from the rear window unless you...
