Know what? Forgot I was a member here, lol. Still likin the truck? Just curious. :D

The Wobble That Will Not DIE!!

Just for the sake of tossing it in there and I'm pretty sure it's not a common issue but it sounds to me like you've checked everything but the drive shaft/shafts. I have seen where they become swayed in or near the middle and they'll act just like a bad tire and shake only at certain speeds...

Looking at 2 Explorers Need opinions

Well my advice WOULD'VE been, think rationally. Why would they offer 2 vehicles at $5500 + my Toyota = $7500. Then ask them "why?". The engines, if both running are worth their weight in gold from what I've read on Ford Explorers (figuratively speaking of course). The drive train on both...

    No Heater!!

If you'll look right there under the hood where your heater core hose run towards the firewall on mine there is a little round dude that looks almost like a fuel filter but it's plastic on the outside and has a vacuum line on top of it. It controls the flow of coolant going to your heater core...

    Vacuum Line Missing?

Look for a large hose slightly bigger than that "T" to be missing or even displaced from the throttle body or that tube that runs from the ECM to the throttle body. Actually that may not come directly from the ECM. I'm a bit out of touch on Fords but I'd at least say the tube from the breather...

    4.0 OHV Don't like Oil.

TY so much for that. That is the exact same thing I said. The ONLY reason I suggest STP Oil Treatment is for higher mileage engines (say 85,000+ miles). It is proven to preserve valve integrity and even helps quiet noisey valves (which is the only reason I'd suggest using it at all). New oil is...

Does this sound right to you?

Alternator code maybe?? A/C unit. Power steering pump. Everything on that truck of mine looks like it's monitered. Would assume those are too. I know the A/C uses a relay to engage/disengage. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong please. I aint quite as fresh on Fords as I was years ago. The 96...

    2nd day blues

Ok so the switch beside the radio says it's in 2wd but the 4wd and 4wd low lights keep flashing on the dash. What's that about?

    2nd day blues

One thing I would also like to ask is on that 96 Explorer is it normal for it to kick in 4wd on it's own on steep grades or a certain amount of speed loss?

    2nd day blues

I would like to explain a little something. I have never had luck with Fords in all my 20yrs of driving. Only Ford I ever had luck with was an old Ranchero with a 302 in it you absolutely could not kill so for the longest I strayed away from Fords. And when I say we didn't get along I mean not...

Does this sound right to you?

Yes the truck will start without the serpantine belt but it won't like it. You shouldn't get an error code though because it has to record the same occurance in 2 seperate operating times to report it as error. Don't let it run long though because it could run hot on you.

    2nd day blues

Well I'm a step closer to figuring out my problem. My wife found a post on one of the other Explorer forums through google that made mention of the motor that changes the transfer case into 4wdh, 4wdl, and 2wd. After reading that post I removed that motor to see that the transfer case indeed was...

    4.0 OHV Don't like Oil.

The sound is a symptom of a problem. In motors, a "sound" will be only caused by a couple of things. Poor fuel processing leading to poor compression. Lack of lubrication leading to a rub or a tap of metal on metal. Something loose which means the end is soon. Something broken which means it's...

HELP!!! My Keyless Remote Won't Work

You could try your local Ford dealership.

    4.0 OHV Don't like Oil.

That's a great cando attitude. Maybe a little overboard on the oil purchase there but hey. :) Believe me when I tell you I've worked on cars since I was hip high to a grasshopper (still aint much taller than that now) lol. My father picked me up because I was too small to climb up under the hood...

97 Explorer 4 Wheel Drive dash lights flashing

Buy a Haynes or Chilton manual. They'll tell you exactly where every part on your vehicle is and how to check and replace them. I've used them for years.

Saying goodbye to a loved truck...

That's when they get perfect for playin dude. Fix basicly what you have to and just raise a little cain in it. Buy your new vehicle but kep old trusty around for some good times. Fun is worth more than any resale value you could have on the old girl.

    01 Ex Sport.When stopping,Whoomp squish sound?? Ideas?

It could just be then they didn't put that quietner gunk on them when they installed them. If you take it apart and can't find anything try getting some of the gunk from your local parts place and try putting it on the brakes.

    MAF Sensor

Try spraying WD40 lightly around ends of vacuum hoses or even intake, throttle body edges. WD40 is heavier than air so when it hits a crack or leak while the engine is running it will fill the hole temporerilly and smooth out the engine. At least I think that's how it went last time I had a...

    Cold start Transmission hesitation.

I would do exactly that and feel exactly the same way. Plus I was under the impression that synthetics are by nature thicker and extreme cold temps make oils get extremely thick and unwilling to move. So definately let it warm up.

    Slow Start

Check or change your gas cap. You could be loosing fuel pressure from a bad seal in the cap. You run it a while it builds up pressure and maybe it isn't falling off so fast during the day but as it sits it has plenty of time to blow off pressure. Also it could be an old fuel filter reducing...

coolant gushing out after head replacement

Where is the water coming out and did you replacement gaskets go completely around each bolt hole? My Geo tracker has a carb bolt that goes right through the intake manifold and had a crack in the gasket allowing it to rush out and into the intake. I also just made a homemade gasket out of a...

    second brake resivor?

It should be for the hydraulic clutch and it should seldom need filled unless your clucth is starting to get fairly worn and due for replacement. So just be careful not to get stuck out there with no way to move.

    4.0 OHV Don't like Oil.

Believe me I recommend against it in cold areas also. But by that I mean areas where you look at constant @ or below freezing temps for consecutives weeks at a time. If you're like me here in Tennessee where I might see @ or below freezing temps for maybe only 3 or 4 days at time it's really not...

    Junkyard Engines?

The problem with junkyard engines is they come from a junkyard. Anything they came out of was in the junkyard for a reason. Motors from wrecked cars are risked at having cracked blocks. Motors from just "junked out" cars have the risk of being run to death. My father was a junkyard owner when I...
