Not sure what is going on...I unhooked the battery, put the cables back on, now the only thing that does not work is the speedometer. Weird.

With the hubs locked and the system engaged in 4x4 I had always been told not to exceed 45 mph. I don't think that it would matter though if the hubs are locked, but you do not have it in 4x4. I could be wrong though.

Last 4x4 question..I swear. With the exception of decreased fuel economy (I will probably only put 3-4 hundred miles on it this winter) Can I leave my manual hubs locked and keep the system off inside the truck...essentially giving me on the fly 4x4?

I don't have a problem disengaging them...I just wanted to make sure that they were operating properly when engaged; which is what I was unsure about.

OK..maybe I am using the wrong word...I am turning the axle shaft (it goes perpindicular to the drive shaft) There is a part that is shaped like a U that appears to connect to the back of the wheel...right at the wheel. On the passenger's side, I can see it spinning freely. So I know that...

Sorry for being vague..I can turn the axleshaft on the passenger side freely, it never locks AND I can see the u-joint turning as I turn the axleshaft. On the drivers side, when I turn the axleshaft, I noticed the U-joint does not turn when I rotate the shaft, nor does the axleshaft lock.

Anyone with any ideas? Should I go ahead and order the locking hubs?

I just re-read the sticky on 4x4 problems. I am pretty sure that my hubs are blown. I can turn the drive axle and it spins and spins. Never locks in. Here is my question though, when I turn the front drive axle I can see the (u-joint?) right where it goes into the wheel turning, however...

OK...I was just reading the "stickied" thread on 4x4. I tested my hubs by turning the drive axles...they both lock after 1/2 revolution?? Is it possible that it is still my hubs? I can hear it engaging...the lights light up...and when I put it in 4 low, I can tell that the engine is bogging...

Anyone have any experience with these. They run like 1/3 the price of the Warn's. I really don't use the 4x4 much, hunting a few times, and if I need a back-up vehicle in the snow. No off-roading for me, and being I only paid 600.00 for the truck, I was thinking of putting a set of these on.

I don't know if the shafts were spinning while stuck...I just know the tires weren't:) The rear of the truck was also sliding to the left side...

The 4wd does not work. Stuck in snow...rear tires spun...front ones didn't...which I then assumed was a hub problem, but then I checked and both axles locked after about 1/2 turn or so. Just looking for any other suggestions.

Yes I had already read what Derocha has written...I am just confused by the fact that when it is in 4x4 the axle shaft will NOT rotate, which would lead me to believe that they are engaged...although when 4x4 is not on, the axle shaft rotates freely. I am just confused I guess

I know I have posted a few times regarding this whole thing...I apologize for that. I am a bit confused though in regards to testing if my Auto hubs are locking. With the 93 Explorer in 2wd (4x4 disengaged) as I rotate the axle shaft...should I be able to rotate it freely or should it lock in...

Yeah..My BIL was with me when it got stuck..two rear tires were spinning..front..nothing. The rear end would spin and then slide to the left side...I'd straighten it out, try it again and it would slide to the left. But there is definitly no pull from the front end??

Yeah...shift motor did not work when I bought the truck...I took it off, cleaned it etc...then it worked, or so I thought. The indicator lights both come on (they didn't when I bought it) Also when I had it in 4L...it was "crawling" so I know the transfer case is engaging...??
