low power, surging, dies at random

TUrns out the fuel pump assembly that was just replaced a couple weeks/few tens of miles ago was faulty. But the bastud shop (a different one than did the first repair, obviously, since I was in a different state) charged me over $600 for the repair. Ridiculous.

low power, surging, dies at random

Died for good. Towed. Currently at a shop in the wrong state (not the one that I live or work in...). More to follow possibly Mon. :-(

low power, surging, dies at random

I had the vehicle in a shop yesterday. He pulled two codes. One was for fuel pump ground. It makes sense to me that grounding that circuit would certainly cause the vehicle to die...why it happens on smooth roads at a constant speed is beyond me, but hey I had a Cherokee that had that...

low power, surging, dies at random

FPR should have been on my 'Replaced' list...new a few thousand miles ago. Rechecked- not passing any fuel through vacuum line. Not getting a check engine light at all, except for when the engine cuts out and I coast to the side of the road, which is probably due to ignition key being on...

low power, surging, dies at random

No CELs- except for when its having a kaput fit. No CEL prior to that, or after restart. Also replaced mainfold pressure sensor and both coolant temp sensors. Actually, I'll have to reconfirm the latter, but I believe that I got both.

low power, surging, dies at random

So here's a hail mary. My 94 sport wtih 77K miles on the ticker is making me crazy. It's been surging for some time (couple thousand miles). I attributed that to a possible intake vacuum leak. However, it has grown more pronounced over time, and now the thing just up and quits running...

    egr problem

Crap...they offer DPFEs wtih oval and D shaped plugs....I'm out of state for work and want to replace when I return in a ocuple of weekends...any odds on which is most likely the one for a '94??

    egr problem

http://www.rockauto.com Good prices, including motorcraft parts. Many pics too. My IAC is new, so I HOPE That isn't it. I'll have to look into what, aside from the PCM feeds into its cycle.

    idle issue/egr valve?

I'm on a similar road, my surge problem is less severe, but still there. Haven't done the MAF either. Pretty much everything else though. '94 Sport. FWIW, I did already replace the intake air temp sensor. I'm looking at the one in the air filter housing now, just for yucks...I think it...

    92 Exoplorer Surges

surging Would a bad MAF through a fault code/CEL though? I've had a surge for a while, done the IAC, done the leak check, done the fuel pressure regulator...don't want to do the MAF needlessly.

    T-case 1354, toast? Locked 4 lo

resolved- thank you Alright, all set! Thanks, everyone for the advice. Putting it in Neutral and rotating the shaft in the right direction got me to 2WD. Then, with respect to the plug- there is s center locking collar, a little red plastic bushing that surrounds the center...

    4x4 won't disengage

Alright, all set! Thanks, everyone for the advice. Putting it in Neutral and rotating the shaft in the right direction got me to 2WD. Then, with respect to the plug- there is s center locking collar, a little red plastic bushing that surrounds the center ground terminal and locks all of them...

    T-case 1354, toast? Locked 4 lo

tips Ah, well, talk amongst yourselves then! Just kidding- comments right on track. Yes, it was in Park. Doh. Will give it a try...at least snow is coming if it stays stuck! But I need it for other purposes pretty soon..:salute: Have definitely done a lot of brake jobs...I'll check...

    4x4 won't disengage

tips Thanks, I appreciate the tips- yes it was in Park. I shoulda thought of that (N) - i get doubly stupid when working with systems I'm not familiar with. Fingers crossed, and snows coming! Thanks also re: rotating through proper sequence.

    4x4 won't disengage

Hm...I'll try the manual process on the front driveshaft tomorrow (#9), but otherwise I'm in the same bolt. Except- I pulled the shift motor, and couldn't rotate the selector! It was in between 4Lo and 2H, I'm worried something is bound up in there, can't get out of 4Lo.

    T-case 1354, toast? Locked 4 lo

Hi all, Did some searching, went through shift motor rebuild thread. Wondering whether my best course is just to get a used t-case & R/R. Done a fair amount of amateur repair/restoration, but not much with 4x4 driveline. I was doing very very light offroading, flat area that was very...

    How to: 4x4 Troubleshooting guide

Kudos to the folks doing the rebuilds..but I just have to add some info in re: $300 price for the motor. Rockauto.com has them for +/1 $60 if you send back a core, $90 brand new...

    Tire size OPTIONS help!

I went with 30s. Didn't want the width of the 31s in front. General Grabber AT2s get a thumbs up from me- great in snow, quiet on street. Not mudders, but good crossover tires.

10w30 Mobil1 in my 94 limited, good idea?

It won't cause any problems. At least, the viscosity won't...I'm a big fan of synthetics (usually Redline) but not so much Mobil 1. That's just me though. SOunds like you'll be driving enough that you'll be changing it out again pretty soon anyway.

93 EB drivability / fuel problem

Any more on this? I have a bad Intermittent surge. So bad that, for a while when it seemed more persistent I was getting worried about tranny. Not the case though. Seems worse when ambient air temp is very cold. Have changed the intake air temp sensor and both coolant temp sensors, IAC...

    i got 2 questions...need answer asap....

yeah, heater valve/crossover. Not too costly rockauto.com or local store, and 5/8 (I think) hose.

    Low Oil Pressure

Sea foam in the gas won't do anything for oil pressure. You can try one of the ring-sealing cans of snake oil. But if it isn't smoking (out the exhaust) then I'd just step up on the viscosity chart a bit to 10W40 or 5W-50 synth. If the seals/rings were worn you should see and smell the oil...

hey did some stuff to my truck, and now its idling rough

rough Sounds like a vacuum leak/false air to me. Are you sure the vacuum line you pulled for the sea foam didn't split on reinstall, and that it's seated properly? Any other lines you might've bumped? Did the intake hose get secured properly at MAF and intake? Just some thoughts.

Is normal the temp gauge in EXP-94 XLT ?

temp The temp for the guage, I think, is the one to the left of the water neck. THe one for the computer is toward the right, under the air intake. Sounds to me like a stuck thermostat. Also check the wiring harness for any exposed wires that could ground the signal.

Solved Transmission Band Adjustment Specification Chart

dagnabit ...hate it when that happens...:p: Thanks for the clarification! TOok a crack at it today following a trans service and (partial) shift kit install. Couldn't find a socket to fit the bill (yes, I read the sizes quoted in this thread-- off to the store today or tomorrow).
