    Leaf spring support

Is there any way of supporting sagging leaf springs ? The rear end on our '98 Ex seems to be a bit lower since towing our 26 foot caravan last year, and the self-levelling suspension light comes on whenever any back seat passengers carried. (re-sets if ignition turned off and on though). I don't...

1998 Ford Explorer with a brake problem.

HI there, this has happened on our '98 but same as Paddymor. Brake judder only when coming to a stop, but NO warning light on. One day the warning light came on and the symptom went away, but at MOT time the garage found a faulty sensor. sensor replaced and fault came back, though warning light...

    Self levelling suspension warning

Self levelling suspension Hi Thorpedo, I posted that a year ago, and in that year the fault has come and gone. If we have a load or rear passengers, the light comes on within about twenty miles. If only solo or two of us on board it may not come on at all. It all seems relative to the amount...

    Airbag light has gone out!

I am currently touching all the wood I can find as well as crossing fingers and toes. Since the weather has warmed up, my airbag warning light has stopped flashing its fault code, and now operates normally. How weird is that ?

    Tyres

Colway tyres I had some Colway retreads on a Suzuki Rhino a few years ago, and they were awful. Grip and looks were good, but they needed loads of balance weights on the rims to stop bad vibration over 40 mph. I think you get what you pay for, and personally I wouldn't use retreads except if...

When should timing chain be done ?

Chain tensioners Mine has just turned 83,000, and while we don't have any rattles, I would like to get it sorted if this is general advice. Prevention being better than cure etc. Has anybody any idea how much this would cost including parts for both tensioners at a garage as I have a limited...

    Airbag light

Maitenance Manuals The Clymer manuals are like our Haynes manuals, but often only available from the USA. Try Google search. The Haynes manual that my mate Mike has is for Explorers from 1991 to 2000. The ISBN number is 1 56392 390 4 and may be available by quoting this number from your local...

    Airbag light

Airbglight & horn & cruise u/s My gut reaction is that your problems are more likely to stem from the "white plastic ring thing" in the steering wheel assembly, described by Blueka, as the horn and cruise are also not working. Time to buy a Haynes or Clymer manual prhaps, but make sure you...

"R" reg explorer fuse box diagrams wrong.

Fuse box wrong Well, that was weird. The auxiliary fuse box is set up as per owners manual enRHD198, but the main under bonnet fuse box is as per owners manual enRHD196. having said that, all the fuses were OK. Thanks for the link to the enRHD196 diagrams.:)

    Airbag light

Have chatted with Rich already, but for info to anyone else............. my airbag warning light came on in exactly the same sequence as his. Have now put in for early MOT to see what is going to fail. I think we have a blowing exhaust immediately fwd of the cat, the airbag warning light and a...

"R" reg explorer fuse box diagrams wrong.

The fuse boxes in my "R" reg explorer are not laid out as shown in the Explorer Owner's manual that came with the car. The code on the back page of the manual is enRHD198. The main fuse box is shown on page 112 with 10 main fuses and 15 mini fuses. I only have eight mini fuses in one area and...

Newbie q's about suspension and heating

Hi there, I just bought my first Explorer, a 1998 model, United Kingdom (Great Britain) spec. I have a couple of questions.......... 1) The interior ventilation is very warm, even with the heat control turned to the blue area. Engine temp is fine. Max A/c is cool, but A/c is still warm as I...
