    over 100mph in an explorer

Ah yes, the young and stupid days. My buddy had a '68 Firebird, with a 4.1L OHC Pontiac inline 6 cylinder, with 4bbl carb and dual exhaust. Car tapped out did 145mph on pump gas and was all stock, including 3 speed auto tranny. It chucked a rod out the side of the block a week later....gee...

ABS Modulating front brakes at low speed (fix)

Glad this worked for you, mine is working perfectly. No false modulations. GM has a service bulletin on their full size trucks for this problem. The key is to make sure you get all the rust knocked off the flat surface that the sensor sits on so that the sensor depth is correct. This may...

why is MPG so bad for these?

Yah I kinda don't get it either.....my 2000 5.0L AWD Ex, gets the same mileage as the 2000 4.0OHC 5 speeder my dad just sold. Considering the AWD is exactly that, it should be more miserable on fuel than the V-6 truck with part time 4X4 and more efficient OHC. The 5.0L Rocks for power too...

    98 XLT Explorer 5.0 w/AWD

I wouldn't worry about the tranny shudder into OD.....Mine does it too. It's a common complaint on the 470RW tranny. Ford did have a lot of complaints on this on many vehicles according to the tranny guy at my local Ford dealership. They are a good strong tranny, but they do need to have...

ABS Modulating front brakes at low speed (fix)

Yup, should be the drivers side if the vehicle pulls to the right, as it's modulating the left wheel. You may want to try again, and pay very close attention to the flat mounting surface of the hub that the sensor sits on. Rust builds up here, and you may have to chisel it off with a small...

5.0L tricky to find coolant leak (fixed)

The explorers been losing coolant slowly for about a year now. While changing plugs I notited the head and block was tinted green on the pass side by cylinder #2/3. It appeared as though the head or block had become pourous or something....quite scary as I like the truck. With the inner...

    97 Explorer 5.0 Radiator

LOL to the 5 timing chains comment. I would like to add that five timing chains isn't so bad, it's the 15 nylon tensioners that are the culprit. What were they thinking???????? Sole reason why I snapped up a 5.0L version.

    P0300 random misfire. Help!

Another note....my 5.0L was showing a misfire #3. I had done some work to the top of the motor (replaced rotten coolant pipe). I had to unplug three fuel injectors to gain access. The retaining clips for the wire plug broke. i pushed them back onto the injectors and they seemed to want to...

ABS Modulating front brakes at low speed (fix)

Just before coming to a stop, my 2000 splorer's ABS would start modulating the front brakes. I knew it was the one of the front wheel bearing/speed sensor assemblies. FYI if you are having this trouble, you can remove the sensor and clean them to fix without having to R/R the whole wheel...

2000 5.0L Intermittent Tach and door lock problem

I have a 2000 Explorer AWD, and the tach is intermittent. I've searched the forums, wasn't able to come up with any fixes, although it seems to be a common problem. Has anyone made any headway with this....is it a wiring issue or the tach itself? Also, the drivers door "lock/unluck" button...

1999 explorer driver door lock problem

Yup, just fixed the same issue on my 2000. It was a spring that returns the outer door handle push rod to the retracted position. I thought my lock motor was toast, so I bought a new one. When I took the old one out, I noticed the latch mechanism was still binding, and the lock motor (now...
