This rod end is used with either a bolt, or a threaded rod to allow a certain percentage of movement. This makes a stationary connection have mobility. It has numerous uses from hobby projects to suspension, and steering systems. It is roughly analogous to a tie rod end.

Luckily we were able to bend it back in place. But the extreme angle that the outer CV joint had to endure was too much for it, it grenaded itself.
