'00 4.0 SOHC fan clutch removal

The thermostat on my mom's '00 XLS with the 4.0 SOHC decided to fall apart and the 1/4" guide rod sheared off and dropped into the water pump, so now I'm trying to get the pump off to check for damage, but I can't get the fan clutch off. My Haynes book shows the Ford service tools which look like a wrench to hold the large hexagonal shaft/nut, and a smaller open end wrench. My problem is figuring out where that wrench goes, since Haynes neglected to mention that bit of info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I removed mine ( a '99 SOHC ), to replace it with an electric fan, I "borrowed " the appropriate tools from Auto Zone. Further, if I remember correctly, it was pretty obvious how to use the tools.

Yeah, we don't have autozone, checker, or advanced stores around here, only NAPA, which closed at noon today... I highly doubt they have the tools, but I'll check tomorrow. Do you remember where you put the smaller wrench (not the one for the shaft)?
