00 Mounty V8 AWD
I've done quite a bit of reading on this forum and searched, but I have not found the answer. I have a 2000 AWD V8 with the audiophile unit. The display has gone out. I've tried the solder/clean fix a few times with little success and now it's gone all the time. I would like to replace the unit with another OE unit, with MP3 or in-dash changer if possible. The feature I really care about is the steering wheel control. I don't care about the RDS, dual media, rear seat control are unimportant. Making use of the built-in sub is also important only from the standpoint of having complete range of sound. So I'd like to know which other units will work. I've been to http://oem-auto-accessory.com/factory_ford_radios.html; saw that I have the T100 connector. Doesn't look like all T100 will have steering wheel control and sub functionality. How about the sub? How about other audiophile units like for the Focus. As a matter of fact, will a '98-00 Explorer "premium" work? Will it sound like crap w/o the sub? Knowing what to look for will allow me to troll Ebay. Thanks.

Okay, let me rephrase and ask a new question. I know using an audiophile head unit in a non-audiophile setup means no bass, because the HU has a built-in crossover. On the other hand, if I use a non-audiphile HU in my audiophie setup, do I get bass out of my door speakers and the sub becomes non-functional? I'm thinking of switching my HU with anything with a good display. Lots of HU on Ebay from Rangers/F150/etc. If I get one with a T100 connector, is it a just direct plug and go?
