Can anyone help me understand the PCM tachometer signal so I can figure out the a way to drive a four cylinder Volvo tachometer?

Edit:

Hopefully found the answer in the JTR conversion books. They claim that adding a 750 ohm resistor between the internal circuit board and the meter movement brings the 4 cylinder tach within adjustment range. The 6 cylinder tach should be adjustable to the V8 signal.

I searched adapter and that didn't get it, searched tachometer and that got it.

A 302 in a Volvo? That... is just awesome. Do you have any pics posted?

The Ford 5L/302/Volvo is a pretty common as is the sbc swap. The engine fits well and really changes the performance of the Volvo. In my case I am moving from an 83HP diesel to a 240HP Explorer. Should be a great new experience in life.

there is a how-to, put the url from your host between quotes or something? I'm not sure.

Use the "IMG" link on the photobucket photos. I am very interested in seeing the end result. I have always thought the old 60's volvo's would be a good candidate for a V8 swap.

. . . after reading the instructions and resizing PhotoBucket:

Well . . . I guess it helps to read the instructions.

Everything fit. Had to replace the iron exhaust manifolds for Ford Racing 'shorties' but with the serpentine accessory drive belt set up on the front I got to use the Explorer fan after modifying the fan shroud to fit the smaller radiator. Biggest issue so far has been that the 4R70W transmission is larger and longer than the transmission tunnel. Nothing outside the limits of a 4lb sledge though.

Been a lot of fun and a great education!

He he, when all else fails read directions... I've been guilty of that one too.

Nice job, the donor looks very clean too. Sleeper in the making!

I always wanted to get a nice clean Fairmont and drop in a strong 302 but leave the skinny tires and hubcaps on it... nice quiet exhaust, you know.

That fits really well in there.

I should have taken more pictures of the car before starting taking it apart.

Thanks, I will go away now.

:D

How are you able to register it with the ford engine in there?

You, obviously, did not notice that I live in Ellijay. This county only put in zoning requirements about 6 years ago. We are more concerned about opening more than one fire station in the county than about air pollution. No smog, no smog tests, no problem.

Probably would be an issue in CA although I would propose that a fuel injected, oxygen sensored, computer controlled gas engine would be a lot cleaner than a 30 year old diesel.
