hi everybody, I bought my Explorer last week with the OHV engine and 30K. It looks and feels like new and I know it's a truck and I am wondering if I have a problem. When I accelerate from a stop I get a pronounced, rapid "put-put" sound which doesn't seem to be present when accelerating while underway or when revving the engine in neutral. Sounds something like an exhaust leak or perhaps it's just a loud exhaust and no luxury car soundproofing. Any info or opinions will be appreciated.

Some amount of loudness is to be expected with the OHV engine. Unless you feel that it's detonating or "spark knocking", it's probably normal operation.

I have never had such a sound. If it sounds wrong than it probably is. Take it back and see what they say.
Sooner the better.

Mine is noisy, especially the wrist pins when idling (marbles in a tin can noise), but don't recall hearing any put put sounds.....

when i'm accelerating in my 00 xls, it will make a revving sound, and it sounds like something is slipping sometimes..

dno what it is?

If it feels like the driveline is accelerating more than you are it is probobly transmission related.
