I just want to get a clear answer on how long does ford cover this under warranty. I bought a brand new explorer 2000, It has been giving me this problem since 45,000 kilometer, took it to shop and they could not diagnose or replicate the problem, no it is very bad. anyways I have 138,000 kilometers on this truck and they are not willing to fix it anymore, they only found out about 00M12 after I mentioned it to them. I won't be buying anymore ford cars, I have been dealt very poorly by them. *******s.

IF you have record of the 45K visit, use that to make them fix it. Try going thru Ford corporate if the dealer is resistant

judging by the language, it looks as if this user is a foreginer.... dealing with ford outside the us is a lot more difficult than ford US

jvivek:

Not sure where you are located, but ask your dealer for an OASIS REPORT on your vehicle. This computer print out has all the info on your truck, such as build date, sale date, sale mileage, dealer approved repairs (assume this is repairs under warranty), outstanding recalls, etc.

The OASIS REPORT on my truck dated 10/09/2003 states the following:
00M12 Caution: May not need repair:service only if concern is present.
Please refer to Dealer Letter for Program Coverage.
Camshaft Chain Tensioner and Lower Intake Manifold Gasket - Additional Coverage to 6 years or 72,000 miles from the Warranty Start Date, Whichever Occurs First.

Someone on this site posted a copy of this letter a couple of years ago. Do a search and you may find it. I copied it and this letter is dated November 2000 and is addressed to: All Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers.
The effected Explorers were 4.0L sohc, 1997 through April 7, 2000.

So when you dealer says that he didn't known anything about the 00M12 campaign, well he's full of $hit and not telling the truth.

Hound the crap out of them and demand a meeting with the district service rep. Time to start jerking on their chain.

Not sure about Canada, but in Australia I asked about any recall’s for this problem at a dealership and also contacted Ford Australia about any recall’s on the timing gear on the 4.0 V6 S.O.H.C engine also quoted the vehicles I.D/engine number and was told that there were no warranty recall’s documented for it.

From this I concluded that the warranty only applies in the U.S and not on Exported Explores.

Hope this helps a little.

There is a big difference between a RECALL and a Owner Notification Program (ONP). Recalls are mandated, have to repair items. The issue with the timing chains etc. was not a Recall. It was only a notification to the owners with a warranty extension on the effected parts. Any dealership looking for a recall will not find one. They have to look for the ONP #'s 00M12 and 01M01
