I just got the truck 2 days ago.Love it.Some little quirks here and there.I have 2 questions. It has 84,000 miles and I want to convert it over to Full synthetic.Ahs anyone done this at this milage?

Second I have read the endless threads about the cam tensioner cassettes being noisy when cold. Now Mine has not done it and the engine sounds smooth. But this morning it was 10 degrees out and when I started it it made a quick whirling noise for about 3 seconds.Im thinking tensioners. My 93 Lincoln Mark 8 did it all the time.Just wondering if it is anything to worry about on this engine,Because I was told on my lincoln it didnt harm anything. Thanks!

Many people have converted to synthetic fluids at high mileage with no ill results to my knowledge.

3 second chatter at cold startup is normal, IMO. The oil pressure cant come up as fast when it is cold and thick. Synthetic Oil would help some. You can check and see if the tensioner recall has been done through a Ford dealer. Give them your VIN and they should be able to tell you what recalls are still outstanding for your truck.

Hey thanks for the reply.I figured it was the lack thereof oil on a cold start.I remember how my mark 8 was.I went to the ford website and entered my VIN.No recalls came up.So I am assuming the work was performed. It runs great I have no rough idle and no pinging or chatter. So I am thinking I am safe for the 00m12 recall.Next I plan on changing the fluid in the trans.I dont think I should have it flushed with 84K.I did a just a drain and fill on my 93 sport and it runs great. No problems with this trans but I have no clue if or when it was ever done..

The two cam tensioners have springs inside, which do not last the life of the engine. The cam cassettes also will not last the life of the engine. There is not, was not a recall on all of the low reliability parts. You must choose to do them yourself. They will all survive the warantee, but don't gamble on them going 50k+ past that. Change them when possible, good luck.
