I stumbled across an '01 Sport 4x4 with 24K miles at a dealership for $15K. My '00 F-150 just rolled over 100K and I've been thinking of returning to a more practical short wheelbase, so I'm seriously considering making a move.

Are there any common problems folks have had early on with their '01+ Sports? I'd still have the balance of the factory warranty, but I'd like to ID any trouble spots up front. My sister and mom have X's ('98 Sport & '99 4-door), and by 50K miles their main problems were with the fuel injection system (revving & the engine just shutting down and not starting back up) and rear wheel bearings going out.

I'd also be getting new tires soon, and I'm kinda torn between 265/75R16 (~31.8x10.5), 265/70R16 (~30.7x10.7) and 275/70R16 (~31.3x11.0). It's got 3.73 gears.

Thanks!

If it's a SOHC, the the older ones have timing chain/tensioner problems....

I would stay with the stock size or the 265/70R16 if you don't plan on regearing.

Thanks fellas!

I noted a TSB regarding the Cam Chain Tensioner and Intake Gasket and brought it to the dealer's attention.

I've pretty much decided I'd go with LT265/70R16 BFG AT KO's, mainly for gearing reasons...with the stock rims it looks like they'd come out to about 31x10.5.

Of course, I have yet to swing the deal...heading up there tomorrow or the next day to see if they'll ante up enough for my F-150 to make it happen. From the numbers I've run (via kbb.com), they'll make money from the deal overall, even with giving me more than they'd like on the trade-in...I'll just have to lay it out for them, just in case they can't figure it out themselves!

Thanks Again!
