01 Sport with 84K.Flush the trans or Just drain and fill?

I am still getting to know my new truck here.But I want to make sure it will last a long time.I want to change the trans fluid.I know it already has the supreme mercon 5 in it.My question is should i flush it or just drain and fill?I dont know what color Mercon V should be.I assume red like all other trans fluids.Mine looks al little discolored,Nothing bad.But discolored.It smells good,I do not smell anything burnt in the fluid.The trans shifts perfectly and I would like to keep it that way.I am not sure if it has a trans cooler or not.Its an 01 Sport.What would you do with 84K?Thanks!

If the fluid has never been changed. Then flush is the only way. But if it has been changed regularly then the drain and fill might be okay. But if it was me I would just flush it anyway, draining only changes about 1/3 of the fluid at the most. Flush and filter change is the way to go.

I got mine used with about 67k on it and called up the previous owners who hadn't ever done it. I had it flushed and it's got 82k on it now and still works great. I also added and aux tranny filter a little after the flush, there's a long thread for it somewhere. You ex will have he tranny cooler if you have the factory towing package.

Alrighty...Thanks.The darn thing shifts so smooth I cant even feel it shift.I do not have a tow hitch so I am assuming I do not have the tow package.
