:exp: Hi everyone,
Long time lurker, garnering great info. Thanks all.
I have a question, and I know this has been hashed around quite alot.
First off, I'd like it known that I know my way pretty well around a motor ( older ones prefered, newer with sensor gizmos.......well......let's just say non preferred). With that said, I've been trying to determine location of my PCV valve (if this motor even has one). It's an '01 XLS with a 4.0 SOHC LEV ( low emissions......?????) OK.
Reason I state this is because for the life of me ( and being the contortionist to
get to the rear of engine - you'd think there would be a wee bit more room with a V6) I'll be darn if I can see anything that resembles what the PCV valve should look like.
I picked up what is supposedly needed at the local NAPA dealer.
It's plastic, with threads, and has a metal tube wrapped around the upper neck.
Dang if I understand the need for that tube, when it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the valve.
Now, here is my question. My right side ( passenger) valve cover has a nipple about 1/2" dia. and about 1" tall which takes a hose back to the air tube. There is no valve involved. This would seem to me to carry any crankcase vapors back for combustion. But as stated, there doesn't seem to be a valve. Is anyone familiar with this setup or can shed any light on this question of if there is a PCV valve?
thanks for any and all info.
great forum!!!
