:exp: Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, garnering great info. Thanks all.
I have a question, and I know this has been hashed around quite alot.
First off, I'd like it known that I know my way pretty well around a motor ( older ones prefered, newer with sensor gizmos.......well......let's just say non preferred). With that said, I've been trying to determine location of my PCV valve (if this motor even has one). It's an '01 XLS with a 4.0 SOHC LEV ( low emissions......?????) OK.
Reason I state this is because for the life of me ( and being the contortionist to
get to the rear of engine - you'd think there would be a wee bit more room with a V6) I'll be darn if I can see anything that resembles what the PCV valve should look like.
I picked up what is supposedly needed at the local NAPA dealer.
It's plastic, with threads, and has a metal tube wrapped around the upper neck.
Dang if I understand the need for that tube, when it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the valve.
Now, here is my question. My right side ( passenger) valve cover has a nipple about 1/2" dia. and about 1" tall which takes a hose back to the air tube. There is no valve involved. This would seem to me to carry any crankcase vapors back for combustion. But as stated, there doesn't seem to be a valve. Is anyone familiar with this setup or can shed any light on this question of if there is a PCV valve?
thanks for any and all info.
great forum!!!

thanks all, think I've found it. Didn't notice it being white (stock OEM). Does it just pull straight up? Or may it twist in ?
Any thoughts ?????

i know on my sport it is located on the back near the firewall drivers side, the pcv you discribed worked for me the metal tube is a coolant line it is there to keep the pcv valve from freezing. it twisted out if you didnt notice from the one you got from napa. not sure if your is set up that way take a look let us know. i do know there is a lot of info on this site for all years of x's i had to read through several hours for find what i needed

Hey, thanks for the info. That sounds like it may be an OHV model. The SOHC model I believe to be more back center/right passenger side. White w/tee.
I do believe NAPA may have sold incorrect part. Why were there so many variations? What I believe is needed is a Motorcraft EV-243 or Purolator PV225M. IS there a clamp to remove or does this just press fit into grommet??
