like the title suggests, my truck wont shift into 3rd gear.

the truck is an '02 explorer xlt, 4x4. automatic transmission.

the truck acts fine untill it goes to switch from second into third gear. instead of switching gear it feels like something doesnt catch and then the engine revs really high as if i were in neutral. i can take my foot off the gas and then it will switch into third, but not without that major hiccup.

also, after that happens, the "O/D OFF" light on my cluster panel turns on. i've tried pressing the over drive button on the shift lever, but the light wont turn off, it just blinks... the "service engine soon" light also came on at the onset of the problem.

does anybody know what exactly the problem might be, or how i fix it?

thanks, chris munn....

The flashing overdrive light indicates that a fault code is stored. You will have to retrieve the code in order to know exactly what the problem is. These transmissions have known issues with the solenoid blocks acting up around 60K miles. The servo bores sometimes get worn down, and need to be repaired. Did you ever check the fluid level or replace the fluid & the filter? How many miles does it have?

the truck is pushing 90k mi. i think?

my wife happend to remind me that we havent had a transmission flush in over 6000 miles, so were bringing it in tommarow for that, maybe it will help? the transmission is sealed, and since i cant check the fluid level myself i kinda forget that it needs to be ddone. i feel stupid about that.

is there a way i can save myself the $145.oo on the flush by doing it myself?

same thing has been happening to mine, i had the code read and it was PO732 either broken band or bad solenoid. havent had it looked at yet because i havent had the money

Hi;
New here having same problem. 02 Mountianeer 49,000 o/d light goes on and check transmition notice light up. Had fluids and filter flushed and changed, still happens. Getting a PO 732 code. Ford claims there no problem just wants to do a rebuild. Any answers???
