Hey all, asking a question here for the light duty mechanics that may deal with this stuff on a daily basis, I'm a Heavy Equipment mechanic that deals with light dutys only once in awhile.
Woman who lets me live with her has an issue, every once in awhile her Explorer will stall when accelerating from a stop sign or and intersection. Has done this numerous times and she's almost been hit a few times while getting it restarted to get out of the intersection (fortunately we live in a small town with 20mph streets).
2002 4.0SOHC with 67,000 miles, it has not thrown any codes, I've gone in and watched the data stream and everything looks normal. It's never stalled on me when I've driven it so I have no clue. Here's what I've done so far, replaced the Idle air control, new plugs and wires, and had the fuel system motorvacd (cleaned) by a buddy who owns a shop.
Was thinking maybe the key switch is doing something funky, it seems not to have a detent for after it's started and maybe she's bumping it so was thinking a new key switch, but dealer is 350 miles away to get keys programed. But could it be something else? Coil maybe has an internal intermittent short or another sensor doing something erratic causing it to die? But with it never doing it to me, a difference in our driving style I'm not sure but now she refuses to drive it and has taken over my truck so I've got to do something.
Thanks, any ideas where to go would be appreciated.
