Okay where to start...I have had problems with my 2002 4x4 ford explorer xls with the 4x4 light flashing just like many on here have....the 4x4 high light flashes 10x's every 2 mins...the 4x4 low will engage where the 4x4 high will not...i bought a new 4x4 control module 2 days ago and installed it, NO 4x4!!!! I dont know what else to do...i cant take it to the dealer due to lack of funds but if someone could help me troubleshoot that would be awesome

Thanks

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

I had the same problem as you and it turned out to be a bad ground on the transfer case shift motor. Worth a shot to check it out.

Thanks...I'll Have to check that...I got under without a lift (a little tight) I didnt see any wires loose but i didnt take the plate off to really look at it. I know most ground wires are green but I didnt see any green wires either...do you remember what color the wire was that was broke.

Did your 4x4 low still work too...just seems weird that 4x4 low will kick in but 4x4 high wont?????

I had the 4x4 light on the instrument panel flashing, 4x4 High didn't work at all. When I put it into 4x4 Low, the transfer case would go into low, but the front wheels wouldn't engage.

I replaced the module & the switch with no luck. It was at my mechanics one day on the lift and I asked him to check out the transfer case and he found a bad ground. I didn't find or fix the problem myself, so I can't help you there.

Check the following fuses. Fuse information is contained in the owner's manual. If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

In the Battery Junction Box under the hood; Numbers 17 & 18 - Both 20 Amp

Dead Link Removed

In the Central Junction Box under the driver side dash; Numbers 12, 15, & 29 - All 5 Amp.

Here are a couple of pics of the transfer case shift motor from my shop manual. Hopefully it will help:
