First of all, yes I have searched the forums extensively on this topic. I just want to gather all the info I can to make sure I am approaching it properly.

I am attempting a long-distance diagnosis for a friend who has an 02 Explorer V6 with the ABS light on steadily. The light came on when braking downhill during a heavy rainstorm. There is no perceivable change in pedal feel, vehicle handling, braking distance, or anything else. There has been no work done to the bearings, hubs, or brake system (except pads and rotors) during the past four years that he has owned the Explorer. Due to work scheduling, he is unable to bring the vehicle to have the codes read without arranging an alternate ride to work, which is a big deal for him so that has not been pursued yet.

Are there any other questions I could ask to help diagnose the problem? I am talking to someone who has little to no vehicle knowledge so it was not easy even getting this far. I just want to help him out and if possible narrow down the problem to a sensor or whatever else may not be working properly.

Thanks all!

It could be anything from the front bumper to the trailer hitch. To diagnose a problem the right way you need the truck!!!

hi my 2000 explorer abs light was on turned out to be rear abs sensor located on top of diff, brakes still worked fine before i replaced sensor, is 10 min job if thats the problem.

Yea my friends Explorer has the same thing where his ABS light is always on. Ima bring it up to him and tell him its probably a sensor that needs replacing

Thanks to those who replied. He finally got it to a dealer, and it was indeed a sensor issue.
