Long ago when everything worked on my Explorer I remember turning the key ON and hearing a relay click. The click appeared to come from front of rear passenger seat. Now I no longer hear this sound when turning the key ON.

Before I start debugging can another 02 Explorer owner verify a relay click when turning the key ON?

Also does anyone know if the ford factory alarm is powered from a relay?

Any ideas where I can find info on debugging factory ford alarms?

Thanks,
bt

I've owned my Explorer since '04, and I've never heard the relay click you mention. And it's been such a reliable vehicle I can't help you with the other repair because I haven't experienced any issues with it yet.

Any one know where Ford placed the alarm control box?

Alarm control box on 02 Explorer is located driver side under steering wheel to right. Remove the trim piece under the steering wheel and look for a 2x3" black plastic box. bt

Alarm & wireless transmitter now function. I opened the fob cleaned debris from a integrated circuit with alcohol, checked transmitter battery voltage, reconnected the reset switch to the alarm controller box and reprogrammed the fob. bt

How did u remove the upper trim piece? It has some kind of spring clips that look easily broken and expensive to replace. Once the box was out were u able to see what was what in order to proceed?
Thanks.
