02 Explorer Trans Problem

Hey guys, just got a porblem that developed last night. I was on my way home and i got o/d light comes on by itself. But when it comes on its blinking, and I check the dash cluster and it says check transmission. Now sometimes when it shifts gear it feels like a old uhaul going into gear. I doesnt jerk or anything just a hrad shift. I have a 02 explorer, I beleve its awd, v6. thanks for you help

You will need to retrieve some codes to help diagnose the problem. You will just be guessing otherwise. It could be broken bands , servo pistons or solenoid issues.

Jus got this truck bout a month ago from my dad, how i check for the codes???

You will need a code reader but it still might not give you all the transmission codes.

Take it to the closest major auto-parts store, Auto-Zone, O'Reilly, etc., they will read the code(s) for you free. Or buy a code-reader......imp
