'02 Explorer XLT 4x4
Hey all
I purchased an '02 Expy XLT last week...It doesn't have factory fog lights but I would really like to add them. Has anyone undertaken this task ? What parts will I need to get and how difficult is this project going to be ?

Thanks !

Scott

Someone recently posted on here about the same thing. It was ex but I can't remember what gen. Try an advanced search. It might turn up something like wiring diagrams. Good luck with the addition. To at least be a little helpful are you looking to get OEM lights off an ex in a junkyard or some other aftermarket ones?

I definitely want the factory look. I got a pretty good deal on this Expy, its perfectly clean, no rust, interior looks BRAND new....Only option it doesn't have that I really like is the fog lights.

Yeah, it depends if you're going original or just looking for some type of lights for down there. My Explorer didn't come with fog lights either, so I went to Pepboys and bought their driving light kit for like $30, wired it up into my parking lights and added a relay and voila! Really simple if you're not looking for something specific, but if you're trying to make it as original as possible, that MIGHT take a little extra work in case you need brackets or other body pieces to hold them in. However, there are alot of cases of these, so after some searching, I think you could find some helpful answers, since I'm not familiar with '02s. Have fun!

Best bet is to go down to a junkyard and try and pull out the fog lights. (At least the lights and brackets, those are the easy parts. The brackets have a 3 pt mounting system that uses screws similar to, the only example I can think of is the black plastic cover at the front of the engine bay. I can't remember if they're the same size or not. The wiring is the hard part but from what I've heard its not the end of the world. Im not keen on wiring and such so I can't honestly saw. Like Varsity said you'll need a relay and also a switch if you dont want them on 100% of the time your lights are on. If you don't care then you can delete the switch from your list of needed items. Splicing into the parking lights is also fairly easy. Let me know if you can't find that other thread I was talking about and I'll see if I can't find it for you.
