i am having some issues with my 02 mountaineer 4.6l it has 179k i recently just purchased it and the previous owner neglected it, so the engine has paperwork on a complete rebuild in 2010. but after i drive for about 10 minutes of driving normally if i take my foot off the gas to slow down and the car idles for more then 5 seconds the oil gauge drops the it beeps chimes and the light comes on, once i accelerate again the gauge goes back to normal and the light goes off, sometimes if i try and keep driving it far distance i get a tick in the top end like it is not getting enough lube,

i have heard many opinions on what it could be but i cannot figure this one out,
is 179k and possibly a poor rebuild enough for play on the shaft causing it ?

so much neglect can be a bunch of things

worn out oil pump
bad seals for oil pick up
worn out bearing and oil passages allowing too much oil to flow
chain tensioners worn out or getting ground down by the chain and leaking

no matter what though, you have 0, yes 0 oil pressure when the gauge drops so you are getting extreme minimum to no oil through your engine. every time your drive it you are severally wearing it out and damaging it.

So I gotta drop the pan and check?
It's weird it only happens when the truck is warmed up and when it's not under load, if it was a passage was or something like that wouldn't it do it from the start. I'm trying to narrow it down to see if it's worth fixing or getting a new engine.

The wiring harness could be rubbing against the oil filter drip shield.
