Great Pics and Install fusseli, can you tell me what/Where did you use to mount the ground for your 2 amps? I looking to do a similar install on my newly aquired 2002 mountaineer. Thanks for any info.

sounded out and went under one of the brackets under the 3rd row seat, can't remember if it was for the actual seat or the seat belt though. all my wiring is udner the 3rd row seat also, terminal block to a 4ga ground and a fused terminal block for the battery connection.

the 8W7 would blow your mind in person then :-) W7s really are some of the best subs in the world today. although you gotta pay for it lol.

this setup is nice because i drive around every day with the rear seat folded up, the sub firing upwards behind it. completely out of sight... then showoff some bass to some friends and they don't believe what's going on ahahaha. nobody hears this and beleives it's a single 8"... nobody.

Nice.. nobody believes mine are 10"s either. I have owned JL's and only JL's.. been a fan since highschool. But ya.. they are pretty pricey.. my amp alone was $799 lol. I'll create my own pic thread here soon.. I wanna get it mic'd. All I know is at full power - I find myself dizzy and short of breath getting out of my vehicle sometimes.

Another question, Do you the size of the box? did u build or bought a manufactured box? Your box fits so perfectly and would like to get the same box like yours...Thanks

i have a radioshack SPL meter, good investment fo $50 though it maxes at 126db. also a good tool for dialing in hometheater systems, etc. if i remember i'll take a video with the meter on.

i have built my own boxes in the past, yes, did i build this one? no-- laziness and availability won over. i bought it from a sub box builder on ebay for $70+shipping, it is the exact JL recommended spec for a ported 8W7, 1.0cuft tuned at 34Hz. I bought the JL grill ($20) and installed that myself along with a steel bracket for securing the sub via steel cable.

I guess its final that's the box i'll get. I currently have a kicker zx400.1 mono amp and gonna use it to power the JL 8w7, do you think that amp is sufficient? also would you know if i have to bridge the amp to get the most power? since the jl is 3 ohms and the kicker is rated down to 2 ohm which is the best way to hook it up to the amp?

glad to hear it! you're making a good choice :)

1) you can't bridge a mono amp. bridging is for stereo/2ch amps to combine both channels into one
2) JL says to treat their 3ohm subs as it it were a 4ohm load. power most likely scale perfectly linear between the two and four ohm ratings for the amp, but it will be somewhere in between
3) 300Wrms is plenty for the 8W7. i beleive you'd only squueze out another ~2dB by running it at 500W, not to mention there'd be higher distortion levels. my amp is 340W @ 4ohms and 460W @ 2 ohms, which is certainly plenty.
4) if your amp has a subsonic/infrasonic filter, be sure to use it. the subs excursion goes through the roof below 30Hz or so and could use the protection. also, JL recomends a 4th-order LPF @ 80Hz for the W7. if your deck or amp don't have 4th order filters, don't sweat it.
