Fellows. I've got a '02 Ranger Edge with the V3 Flex-Fuel engine and Automatic transmission. 220K miles on the dial. The past 10-15k miles Im getting a "clunk" when shifting from Drive to Reverse.....

BUT....... only occasionally.

If I drive the truck around town going to the store, etc...maybe 10 miles or so.... and then go to back into my garage... NO "clunk".

YET.... if I drive the truck (highway) maybe 30 miles or so...and then go to back into my garage..... SOMETIMES I'll hear the "clunk".

There's no hesitation going into reverse. I move the lever from D to R, let my foot off the brake and the truck goes backwards. BUT...sometimes there's the "clunk".

Truck drives fine.

Thoughts?

Back lash in ring and pinion gears from wear or bad universal joint.

Transman... Thanks. I'll look at them.
