My sister's '02 Sport Trac 4x2 has been suddenly shutting down when making a u-turn the past days. But it starts right up after turning the ignition again. It's not low on gas as it happens regardless if the tank was full, 3/4 or 1/2. Otherwise it's driving fine and idling is also stable.

I'm quite capable at fixing cars but this is the first American car we've had, only bought last week and been loving it. Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Follow your battery cables, there is maybe a chance that one of your main cables hit a belt or something hot and shorts out. It's a stretch but I've had something similar happen when things shift and electrical gremlins can get funky.

Thanks for the reply. Battery is only a week old and I even cleaned up the engine (including the cables) when I changed the battery. Every cable is in place and clamps are clean and tight. No loose cables hanging around.

Did some more searching ... where is the fuel pump inertia cut-off switch located?
