I have a 2003 Explorer with almost 117k. I bought it for short money not in the best of shape, and started doing work to it. Ive had it 6 months now and last problems I have with the car are: A/C compressor squeak once every 30 seconds or 1 minute only when a/c is on obviously (still works should I replace it?), Rattle/ metal on metal (exhaust I think[fix?]), and the one that actually worries me which is the clicking sound. I was told by my mechanic it was most likely the lifters or an individual lifter. Ive read some threads about lifter clicking until engine is warmed up. However my clicking happens even after car is at operating temperature. Also it isn't a constant clicking. The more open the throttle the faster it clicks until I let off the throttle or it up shifts. It generally only happens on acceleration from a stop in lower gears.

Which engine?

The clicking noise is probably the torque converter in the transmission. The torque converters are known for being noisey. It won't ever give you a problem but noise is annoying.

Cool so I decided it wasn't a lifter because that would mean it would happen all the time right? Not just sometimes? But my good friend works for a transmission shop. So I'll have him diagnose if its the torque converter then write back.

EDIT: About the clicking/shuddering sound. Could it be a something to do with a driveshaft/axle or something. Like CV joint etc. Or U joint. Today I had the wheel cut and I was taking a right to take a U turn out of infront of my house and
I gave it more gas then usual with the wheel cut because I was in a hurry and I binded up an axle or some component temporary. It was the same noise like 5 or 6 times then it went away after straightening vehicle. It was a reallly loud THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD THUD. Then it was gone.
