Hello... have a 03 explorer - limited- 4.6 - 5r tranny. 83k miles. The transmission has a po741 code and the transmission od light flashing. Transmission shifts smooth and does everything correctly, but TC is not locking up. I know the computer is sensing incorrect rpms and locking it out. Has anyone had this problem? Have gotten estimates from $3700 (jasper rebuild) - to $1700 shop rebuild - to just service tranny. Most all have told me "service" tranny is a waste of $150 bucks. what about flashing computer? any advice is appreciated!

'04, 4.0L, 5R55S trans., od light began flashing while on vacation, 2,000 miles from home. I noted rpm increase at speed when pedal was increased only slightly, so figgered TC not locking up. Ford garage pulled code for $75, same as yours, TCC slippage detected. He recommended that, with 95,000 miles, best bet is to replace trans.

We drove it back home with light flashing, probably used a little more fuel than usual, have added about 3,000 miles with TC clutch still not engaged. Trans. still works normally otherwise. I plan to drop the pan, pull out the solenoid module, and see if I can determine that solenoid failure is the cause. A new module can be bought for $273 from a transmission parts house, on-line.

Incidentally, for anyone wondering how the PCM "knows" TC clutch is not engaging: it compares shaft speeds of engine vs. trans. input shaft; if not identical, clutch is slipping/not engaged. imp
