03 Eddie Bauer 4.0 bad pinging

im experiencing pinging , if i hit the gas to gain more speed i hear a loud pinging ( braaaap ) doenst sound like the chains only when i hit the gas any clue from anyone why ? there a 172k on it oil just changed at 3k maybe bad gas ? ill try to run premo gas to see it still happens .

Maybe you have carbon buildup. Do people still use Seafoam to decarb?

You can use Seafoam or you can go to a GM dealership and ask for a can of their top end cleaner. It is an aerosol based cleaner and it works much better than Seafoam. I would change the fuel filter if it hasnt been done lately and It wouldn't hurt to add a can of Techron Injector cleaner.

with all the milage i have ( 174k ) i dont think any of that was ever done , i will use seafoam ( have once before on a mustang ) and use injector cleaner i bet theres a ton of carbon buildup , i know the fuel filter was never changed as far as i know, i have owned it for 2 years now
