Something seems amiss.

My 4.6L V8 (you did not say what engine you have) has the towing package, and the tranny filter I picked up (repeatedly) has no "towing package" differentiation in the ordering code. In other words, I am pretty certain that, at least for the 4.6L, the tranny filter is the same whether or not you have the towing package. I cannot speak for the 4.0, but would take a small wager on the same for that lineup as well.

The good news is that since you now have the old filter off, you can be sure to get the right one at the parts counter.

oooops i have the 4.0 eddie w/class 3 hitch went to ford and got a new filter 30.00 they said proberly the patents went released yet so aftermarkets can be made .the whole job was so easy a caveman can do it

remember you must refill with engine running, added 8qts mercon v until a trickle closed it up drove smooooooth as silk now 160k on it , the old oil was dark and there was metal on the magnet but still one thing is ,if i accelerate at low speed the let off gas ( not all the time ) the tranny will jerk into the next gear , i didnt adjust the bands but other wize its tons smooother than before

did you do a complete fluid drain/refill or did you only replace was was lost when the pan was dropped?

i removed the setscrew from center plug and drained , them removed the center plug and drained the rest ( about 6 qts ) removed pan there was 2 qts in pan ( almost took a fluid bath when i dropped it ) filter had fluid in it as well , replaced filter reinstalled clean pan and magnet ,installed large plug and filler nipple screwed into plug where setscrew goes , pumped in 5 qts started engine let it heat up ran through gears , then pumped in 3 more quarts , removed hose from filling nipple and let it run into pan on floor until just a drip ( while enging is still running ) installed center setscrew DONE ! do not shut off engine while the center setscrew is removed OR u will loose trans fluid on the floor , its being pumped through tranny while its running , if u turn off motor the pan will fill up

Isn't there fluid in the torque converter as well????

yes , i didnt do a complete drain , just what was in there and refilled , 4 bucks a qt didnt want to keep filling and draining , still runs tonz better smoooth shifting no hard shifting.
