I have found a engine for my 03' explorer 4x4, however, it's from a 2005 econoline van.
Will this work, it appears to be a windsor engine, but not sure if it will and if it will for 4x4.
What engine is your X currently and the displacement of 05 econo? If it is a windsor engine, it won't fit even without the 4x4 without modification or bolt up to your transmission. And it might be to heavy for the front end.
I believe that so long as you swap all the accessories (and anything that looks different) over from the X engine onto the Econo engine, then you should be fine and everything will bolt up and plug in.
