My 03 explorer keeps cutting off. When I'm driving if I take my foot off the gas it will intermittently idle down and cut off, or rev up. I thought maybe the electrical system, but I have had it tested multiple times. Nothing has been added to the truck, has had regular maintnance, have put dry gas thinking it was water in fuel, nothing, and no check engine light. Anyone have any thoughts?

bump, please I am desperate need of help.

I would look at the IAC first since it is an idle issue.

Which engine? Not having a CEL does not mean you don't have stored trouble codes. Before any guessing and throwing parts at it, scan for codes free at most larger auto parts stores. Call around and write down the DTC p0 numbers, if any. As mentioned above and you want to guess, the IAC valve would be a good place to start as any. Keep posted and GL.

I'll take it to get checked again, I had it checked once but it didn't have any codes. Someone today told me to have the EGR valve(?) checked, not entirely sure what that is. What DTC p0 numbers should I look for?

also it's the engine is the 4.6L V8
