03 Expo limited 4.6 T- Converter replacement

is it possible when i replace my Torque Converter on my 03 expo 4.6 , that i dont HAVE to remove the Y pipe , cant i just lift tranny over the crossing pipe , i just need enough to get the converter out and replaced , dont wanna have broken bolts or a leaky exhuast .. OR does it have to come out ? thx

I am pretty sure the trans needs to come all the way out. the T-converter is pretty wide and you would need over a foot of clearance between the trans and the engine. also in order to ensure that the T-converter is installed on the input shaft of the transmission it should be out.
