I Have a 2003 mountaineer AWD. I need to replace the front Hub on it, due to the roaring sound its making. I did read the posts on how to replace it, however I could not find any info on installing the new hub. I was told by several shops/auto part stores that the hub needs to be pressed in. Is that true? I see several people replaced it themselves and no mention of that. Does it go in easily or do you need to use a hammer to bang it in? then I would assume you have a chance of damaging it. Please let me know, A.S.A.P on your thoughts. Thanks, Charles

Charles:

The front hub/bearing comes as an assembly. No press needed.

The rear is wear the pressing is required.

Good luck.

Front bearings and hub are a unit that gets replaced together. Unbolt old and bolt in new. Rear bearings are the ones that need pressing.

you line up the bolt holes start all 3 bolts, then slowly work you way around turning each 1/2 turn. As you tighten them it will pull the hub down. You might want to use some antiseize around the edges of the hub to help it slide better. And also to help remove it.

Hey, Thanks for the feedback, on that note when removing them will they just pull out. Or should I get a slide hammer.
Thanks again, Charles
