I have an 03 Mountaineer 4.6L. One day I was sitting at mall with key on not running for about 5-10mins. went to go start it and it wouldn't start. battery n alternator are fine. disconnected battery for couple hours it started. turned it off now it would start. sometimes when I turn key and hold it it take s about sec to start cranking. other times I can try starting and it would do anything. Any ideas.

Your explanation is a little unclear. It sounds like a power supply issue.
Could be: Alternator, Battery or even corroded or damaged battery cables.

How did you test the alternator and battery?

I tested battery and alternator with multimeter. Battery was around 12.2v alt was 14v.

12.2v is too low. Unless you did a load test, it's just a surface charge reading anyway. I'd bet if you put a load in the battery, it'd either drop to 10.0 or 1.4. Bad either way.

Edit: @12.2, the battery is at a 50% charge.

I hooked up meter n tried started n voltage hardly dropped at all.
