Just a few questions about my 04. Its a 4.6l XLT with about 32k on the clock. About 2.5 weeks ago, I was getting a ABS light and the 4X4 High light was flashing. I looked on this site to see if I could find out what the problem was, then I took it to the dealer (its barely under the warranty expiration). Guess what? The info I found on here was exactly the problem: a bad rear diff speed sensor. My family took it for a 1400 mile road trip 2 days later. Ran super. Now, there is a howling coming from the driver's side front. Took it to the dealer again. They found a wheel bearing going south. They replaced that, but the tech could still hear it. They called and told me they were leaning towards the transfer case. Before I took it in, I did a little road test. I put in it 4wd high for about 1/4 mile and I could not tell a difference as far as the sound. I dunno... I'm kind of skeptical the transfer case is bad... I do know the Explorer was registered in Michigan before we bought it. I wonder if constantly having 4wd enganged and driving on pavement with spots of snow would cause the transfer case to fail??????
