04 Explorer A/C center vent problems ?

Can anyone help me ? I have a 2004 Explorer that the A/C just went on the blink. A month or so ago my wife complained that there was a loud thumping from under the dash. When I got home it was gone? Today out of the blue A/C will work but only thru floor or defrost not thru center vents. Any ideas of what this is? I have seen other posts similar but have not seen this specific issue when searching the forum. Thanks for any help with this ...

sounds like your blend door broke...that is the door/arm that switches your vents from floor to panel to defrost. same thing happened to mine.

where is this located ? Behind the glovebox? is this an easy fix? Thanks

Sounds more like a problem with the panel door. Have a look at this thread and also look at the link in that thread to another thread with pics of the panel door vacuum motor.
