04 Explorer dies driving down the road

I got my Explorer used last August with 141,000 miles on it and in September; I was driving down the road about 45 when it just shut down and said check charging system. So I just coasted to the side of the road and it just restarted without a problem. It did it only once after that but here a few weeks ago it did it again about 4 times in about 2 days and it has been trying to die sometimes here lately but I catch it in time and dont let it. The fuel filter has been changed so I know its not that and I dont think its going into engine fail safe mode. Ive read about that and it doesnt say anything about that and like I said earlier its just says charging system but im sure thats just from the engine just shuting down. Does anyone have a clue whats going on? I want to get it fixed asap cause I drive down a lot of old curvy back roads and dont want to be going around a turn and then it die again and me wreck my ride.

Start by checking your battery, then alternator, and all connections.

That happened to me also. My fuel pump was going bad. Find the fuel pump relay under the hood in advance. Next time the engine quits feel the fuel pump relay, if it is HOT that indicates the fuel pump stuck. My fuel pump went out at around 130,000 to 140,000 miles. If you end up replacing the pump replace the relay also since it has probably overheated several times (and possibly the short wiring harness from the pump).

Hi all just wondering how you maid out ? l have a 2004 and mine shut off twice going up hill on the hiway. once it just shut off but did not die out the other time it shut down and lights went out too.went to the side off the road and it started right back up ? :scratch:
