Limited w/4.6 V8 with 5 speed auto. I have taken this truck to the dealership mainly to pull the keyless entry code but I also told the service manager that the trans was not exactly right, changing from 2nd to 3rd but more so from park to reverse.About 50% of the time,it will jolt like crazy.Well when I called yesterday evening to find out what they had found,he said that he had flashed the PCM,but he thought that it was the valve body in the trans. He is pulling the pan this morning and will let me know. After reading many posts on this forum,I know that the solenoid pack in this trans is notorious for problems. If this is my problem, what cost range should I expect. Also,I know the warranty is gone, but with only 48k and TSB's for this problem, shouldn't ford cover at least some of this? Thanks for your help.

Depends. Are you a longtime loyal customer of this particular dealership? Do you know the Service Manager? Does this dealer still have funds left in the Owner Satisfaction Program this year? If yes to these you might get some help.

On the bright side there are TSBs to help the techs diagnose and repair these tranny issues. That will cut down on what it costs, which should be way less than a rebuild.

You should have asked us how to get the keyless entry code. Could have saved you some $ there. Good luck.

I would seriously doubt they would help on the Warr part but its worth asking, but don't hold your breath.
Hopefully it will be the easier and cheaper course for you. More likely its the Servo Bores that are shot, causing the fluid to leak which prevents the pressure from building. From what i have heard and read if those are shot - rebuild ($1500-$2400 depending) or Ford Reman $3200. Good news they now have a kit to fix it. So 6 months far after i had mine rebuilt and its better than new.

Shifting smooth now!

Good news and Bad news.Bad news is that Ford will not even talk about covering any of this bill. The first question they ask is,are you the original owner, and when the answer is no and the truck has well over 36000 miles,it all goes south from there.Good news is,local dealer had the kit to fix this trans.,they were very reasonable with price, and now the trans shifts perfect.BTW they did not charge me anything to retrieve the keyless entry code.

Thanks for the feedback. That dealer is trying to make you into a loyal customer, which can be a good thing for you both. It sounds like they have a good honest service department.
