- 2004 Explorer Limited V8
Hi all I have a 2004 Explorer Limited with the 4.6 V8. A few weeks ago on a really cold night I was running low on gas, as in 3 miles to E. A little more info ever since I’ve had it, about a year, at least every other day it will get a fuel data computer error and the needle gauge drops to nothing and the miles to e goes to zero. Just for background of its important. But it stays running and a few minutes later comes right back on.
So back to the other night. I was at 3 miles to E and it was in the negatives temp with the wind chill, almost to the gas station and it just cut off. Figured it was just low on gas and either because of the cold couldn’t suck it up or we. Went and got a gallon of gas and put it in and it wouldn’t fire. Just did the click click click like a dead battery. Had a friend come and tried jumping it which didn’t work. Still nada. The battery terminals were pretty corroded. So next day had someone with a hot box quick jump hook up to it and still it wouldn’t so assuming dead battery. Put a new battery in after also replacing the terminals and still wouldn’t fire. Just doing the click click click or nothing at all. My next guess is starter and/or starter solenoid but not sure if that would cause a running engine to just cut off. Other than that I’m thinking neutral safety switch or ignition switch Any ideas or has anyone had this problem and it was x issue? We’ve been having a lot of snow recently so haven’t been able to test the starter yet. Thanks in advance.
