Hi All!
Our Rear sensors on our 04 mountaineer premier seemed to be malfunctioning. on further examination, looks like the 2 outer sensors were pushed in, and are dangling inside the bumper. i can see them. When i go under the car, i can't access them, there's foam in the way. Anyone know how to get these guys back out into their spot? do i need to remove the whole bumper? and if so wouldnt the foam still be in the way? not sure if there's an easy way to access them that i'm not thinking of.
Thanks!
David

I just pulled some at the junkyard unfortunately I set them down and 2 disappeared. I had no clue how they came off so I ended up pulling the entire bumper. Basically they clip into place I can take a picture of the sensor if you need. Unless you can get you hand in there you need to pull the bumper as I saw no way to get the foam out. If you end up going the rout there is three 10 or 11mm bolts on the underside, two 8mm bolts where tail lights go 4 Phillips push type clips on each fender well and about 8 of those same type of push rivots but with no Phillips head. Just use a flare blade screwdriver to remove center dowel and the main portion of the rivot will pop right out

Thanks! Was hoping to avoid pulling off the bumper, but looks like that's what i may need to do.

If you don't mind bending bumper a little to get your hand it it's doable depending which sensor

I believe the bumper had the tabs but if you can reach in there and push it in it should snap in place. No bolts to remove. If you take bumper off the bolts next to sensors are to remove the entire sensor panel

My sensors were damaged in a rear-end accident, but I didn't fix them.
They were causing the buzzer to always be on, in reverse, so the solution was disconnecting one of them, which de-activated the system.
That caused the light in dash that says OFF to always be lite, so I just covered it with black tape.

So I replaced the sensor that was bad today. Mine was second one over from driver side. I had to remove just a few of the pop rivets and 11mm nut where taillight is(your maountaineer bumper is different so you will have to remove those four screw rivots in fender well). In your case you should be able just to snap it back in. For anyone else that needs to replace a rss if you look at the picture I posted that half moon white thing opposite of where electrical plugs in, is what you have to push in to remove sensor. Also to identify the bad sensor put it in reverse with someone holding brakes or on jack stands and put your ear up to sensors. They will make a clicking sound if functioning correctly.
