Hello Everyone!

I'm new to these forms and I'm having a ton of trouble with a very reputable repair shop to correctly replace my front passenger axle seal. Its first started off with the CV was worn out causing a bad vibration so they replaced the CV half shaft assembly, but not the seal. I drove it home and had a puddle the size of an adult hand under the Sport Trac. Took it back the next morning, the replaced the seal again. It still leaked. Took it back the following week they replaced the half shaft CV and seal again and it leaked again!

This is my 7th time going back for the seal. The manager said they didn't install the right seal for my truck this last time but its still leaking and sparing all over the place, as high as the oil filter.

I'm afraid to mention the shops name, because they are trying to correct this issue but I feel they are doing more harm than good when removing the seal.

Is replacing the seal difficult? Are they installing it wrong? Wrong size? Seriously I've had enough going to the shop since July 31.

I would learn how to do it yourself and get the nature of it and watch them to make sure they are in fact, doing ut right. 7 times is ridiculous. Thats what I do at my shop that I go to. They don't mind and I learn things as well. maybe? maybe not?

MyTrac,

I'm in the Rochester, MI area. Which shop do you go to?

I'd love to learn how but the tools is the problem.

honestly its not too hard to do your self a standard ratchet set and a larger hammer is all it takes aside from the 32MM ??? correct me if im wrong axle nut socket. the cv slides out easily and the seal is fully accessable from there

Nick- I go to Rick's Tire and wheel. It's at 22 just before Ryan road. They are honest and good people. And they do most if not all jobs. And they aren't as expensive as a dealership or a bell Tire.

A member on another forum had the same issue. Turned out the supplier for the seals only sent them regular Explorer seals and were #'d as Sport Trac seals. They figured it out and his axle hasn't leaked yet. Installing the seals are easy, it's removing everything to get to them that takes time and cost so much at a shop.

I went back this morning. They never replaced the seal after replacing the CV for the 3rd time. This is a no no from what I've googled online with other truck manufactures. So they think the seal is damaged. The shop is replacing the seal with a Ford one tomorrow. I hope this does the trick.

I talked to the person who worked on the truck. He was more frustrated and worried taking apart brakes, ball joints, tie rod, hub/bearing, then slowly remove the CV again will cause something to crack.

Mytrac, I'll check them out. I know right where that's at. I'm in the Hall Rd. and Van Dyke area all the time. The shop charged me 250 for the CV originally. Nothing for the seal since it was their screw up. I haven't paid anything since.
