What type of no dip stick tranny would have come stock in my truck?

And an absolute pain to fill if I might add! Do not try to drain it unless you have the tool to fill it back up.

Why are you looking for the dip stick? Are you having transmission problems? Are you doing a fluid service?

Tranny shifts early and late every once and a while. Wanted to check color and smell of fluid.
I was shocked to learn that I have a sealed tranny. I 'm debating on getting it serviced. I bought it a couple of months ago with 104K on the speedo.

I would go ahead and service it, but maybe try a PCM reset before hand for the shift concerns. If you have no records, or the Carfax report shows nothing you really don't know, other than looking for a reman tag or in line filter which could indicate a previous overhaul or replacement. I'm sure you already know of these transmission's less than stellar track record.

My mistake,
yes they were the 5R55S. Almost the exact same transmission, with the exact same problems and issues. The shift patterns are controlled by the ECU. There is a firmware upgrade that fixes this on the hard shifting on the later models. Unplugging the ECU overnight so it looses the shift patterns will force it to learn you driving style as well. It may clean it up too.

I took your advice last night and reset the PCM (thanks to You Tube for the how to)
Seemed to help. I may go ahead and get it serviced. Thanks for the advice.
