I'm thinking of replacing the factory headunit in my '05 Explorer XLT...it does not eject CDs on demand and is out of warranty.

It currently has the standard factory AM/FM, single CD system with factory sub, which I presume is driven by a deadacated factory sub amp.

Does anyone know for certain if this system has an external factory amp which drives the four 5x7/6x8 door speakers? Do dealers typically know this sort of information?

If so, replacing the HU is going to involve more work than I anticipated since I will neeed to either run new speaker wires from the HU to the speakers or tap into the existing ones somewhere after the factory amp.

Thanks!

Here is what I found out. I don't know if there is an amp because it says N/A.

Radio 12v white/yellow
Radio Ground black/lt. blue or black/orange
Radio Ignition black/pink
Radio Illumination red/black (dimmer)
Factory Amp Turn-on N/A
Power Antenna N/A
LF Speaker +/- orange/lt. grn - lt. blue/wht
RF Speaker +/- white/lt. grn - dk. green/org
LR Speaker +/- gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow
RR Speaker +/- orange/red - brown/pink
