My light is out on my 06 Explorer gear shift. At night you cannot see what gear you are putting vehicle in. How do I get access to the bulb? Is this a common problem?

Follow the directions here to get down to the bulb http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168356

Ford doesn't sell the bulb by itself, they want you to buy the whole Assembly. However, Napa sells just the bulb #74 ( If I remember the # right, take it with you ) You need to turn the bulb holder counter clockwise to release it, I used my leatherman.

one more question

thank you for the advice, I am going to fix it tomorrow. wish me luck!!

The link in your post seems to point to a description of how to remove a radio from the console. Is there more info available about replacing the gear shift indicator bulb??

Thanks.

The first part of that link involves the gearshift as you have to go through quite the process of getting to the radio. Unfortunately the pictures appear to no longer be working but that is the proper link.
