Not only my first post here, but my first Ford, and first SUV, though I've been driving Lincoln Town Cars and Mercury Grand Marquis for the last thirty years. Wife is tired of sedans, so I just closed a deal on a 2006 Explorer Eddie Bauer. We'll take delivery on October 11th, but for now it's sold.

Only issue I know of on the vehicle is the adjustable foot pedal isn't functioning correctly. The pedals move away when rocker switch pressed forward, but will not move back. When one of the memory seat positions is selected (can't remember if it was position one or two) the pedals move back all the way, as does the seat. I suspect it's the actual pedal position rocker switch, but that may be too simple. I asked if they could get that switch for me at their cost, which the salesman said he could do. I don't have much leverage now, because the deal is done, and they went as low as possible on the price. I don't see anything listed in their advertised specs for the vehicle about memory seats or powered pedals, so they're not really obligated to fix this as far as I know.

Should I request a diagnostic of the Driver Seat Module? Would it throw a trouble code for the actual problem? Is that an expensive, time consuming task? They'll have the vehicle at their facility for the next four days, so now would be the time to get this straightened out.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

John

i'd just replace the switch. Sounds like the motor works both ways, not much to the system.

Thanks for the feedback. I do now see mention of "ADJ PEDALS W/MEMORY" in the About section of their advertisment. God knows what "their price" will be for a $5.00 rocker switch. Might as well insist they make it right, if possible. The vehicle isn't Ford Certified, but they did claim it has been gone over by their service department, and many issues addressed. New tires on it among other things.

If the Seat Memory Module is bad, that's a couple hundred (Ebay price) without labor, and will have to be programmed in. I'm already anticipating the dreaded sparkplug job. If I can foist this on them without being charged, I think I better take advantage of it. Just wondering if I'd really be asking a lot to have them run a scan of that module? How much would it cost me to buy a scan tool capable of doing that?

Back to the Dealer

Bought the $29.00 switch, installed it, but didn't do the trick. Called salesman and explained situation. He balked at doing the repair, but offered to do a free diagnosis, which is scheduled for Monday. Hoping it ends up being a connection somewhere, instead of the Seat Memory Module or other component.

Might have bigger fish to fry, though. I've found it won't shift into 4WD Low. For the rest of this vehicle's life in my possession, it will probably never be needed, but this has to hurt the resale value. 4WD High lights up on the dash, but no way will 4WD Low. Foot on brake, trans in neutral, won't engage.

Intend to go over this thing thoroughly this weekend. I'll present a list of issues to the dealer when I'm done. Better get started now, there's a LOT of buttons to push...

Don't Need No Stinkin' Dealer!

Thanks to this PDF version of 2006 Ford Explorer Mountaineer Factory Shop Service Manual Set + Wiring Diagrams, I was able to figure it out myself, and I didn't have to buy anything but the $20.00 PDF manual:

The wire labeled BN-BU from the "BACK" position of the Switch to the "ADJ PEDAL REARWARD" input of the Seat Memory Module was broken somewhere, so I jumped it with an additional wire.

That PDF manual is gorgeous. I'll take it over a printed version any day, even for the same price.
