A little stumped… lastnight he kept going in to limp mode with the wrench light and no throttle response, restart and was fine for a few seconds then same thing… 3 restarts and refused to give me any throttle… had it towed home. This morning fires right up and drives just fine… tons of codes popped up but, none seem to be related… right before it limped the trans would slam in and out of gear… all the wiring looks intact, none of the plugs under the hood have corrosion, new plugs 1k miles ago, coils replaced 8 months ago…

The codes range from can bus fault, forced shut down to evap and communication faults

4.6v8, 155k

Did you replace the coils with Motorcraft parts? Can you list the codes that were tripped?

There are so many codes that I don't have a clue about telling you where to start diagnosing things. Maybe someone else will jump in and help you. To me, it looks like there is some systemic issue with modules, PCM etc.

That’s my issue… so many random codes, I have no idea where to start… what’s a real code vs what’s a bs on that was triggered from something else

There’s communication faults in all the code groups, I’m leaning towards that causing all the other ws just no idea what to look for

I think paying for a very capable diagnostic technician would be a good way to go. In fact, their is a guy that has a YouTube channel named "Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics" that might be a good choice for you. His shop is located in PA and I have watched him for a few years now. He is a wizard when it comes to diagnosing issues and he will even do the repairs too. If I had your problems I would look him up without hesitation if I lived in PA. Also, he will come to your location to do the work. A link to his website is below.

He may be good but spent the whole beginning of this video talking about just how crappy Explorers are.

Are you letting your feelings get in the way of getting the problem fixed?

Yeah I don't like him either
He does complaining a lot about the cars he works on
I'd rather watch south main auto much more knowledge

Check your IRMCs. They have a rod that sticks in a plastic piece that tends to break and the rod falls off making the IRMC useless. Did you have a bad battery/alternator event? Corroded ground? It could have been a low voltage throwing all them. Check your voltage. Take it one code at a time. You have multiple issues. Fix, clear, drive, check.
