Hey all, I'm a noob here, and really could use some help! I have owned my 07 Explorer for about a month and a half now, and earlier I jumped it off from a relative's 2018 Chevy Cruze. I was unaware that the cables weren't supposed to be connected directly to the battery in the trunk, and when I did my Explorer's dash flashed blue. Since then the door and turning signal chime has not worked. I was curious if this might be a fuse or relay issue, as the computer seems to be unharmed. Thanks in advance for the help.

I hever heard of the dash flashing blue before. Just jumping another car directly to the battery should not have harmed your car unless the other cars battery voltage was a higher voltage system and it back feeded into yours. If that would have happened i would think you would have many more problems than the chime and turn sound.

Now on to answering your questions is it a fuse or relay issue? Possibly a fuse but unlikely and there is no relay so that rules that out. The turn signal is integrated into the smart junction box (sjb). From what i have read the sound actually comes from a speaker but i have not verified that.

Do the turn signals still flash correctly when you turn them on?

Here is what is interesting about the sjb a proper scan tool can pull codes and possibly test the sound and flasher functions in the sjb. Now there is probally a way to also turn the sound on and off with that same tool. I do know for a fact forscan and a obdlink mx bluetooth adapter can perform a function test on the sjb ( i cant remember if it does the flasher and chime sound but it does check the horn) and can read any possible codes it may have.

The signals and all other electrical systems are functioning; it's just the chime that isn't working.

Okay thats what i thought but wanted to make sure. Here is a thread on that has your exact issues.
Help with turn signal sounds

And after a little more research it looks like the speaker is actually in the instrument cluster.

A local mechanic said the chime speaker is located in one of the computers. I have looked online relentlessly for answers but found none. I don't want to replace the instrumentation unless I absolutely have to.

Yeah I would not want to replace it either. I will check my car later today and see if i can narrow down a spot of where the chime comes from. I am thinking its behind the three slits under the steering wheel but i will narrow it down later. If it does turn out to be the instrument cluster you may be able to send it into a repair company. Doing that may be cheaper than replacing it.
