Could be 1 of 2 things.
The one you don't want to hear.. the radio's done.
Or, the connections at the back are loose and need to be put back in.
Sounds to me like the radio was losing it's ground while you were driving..
Could also be that it doesn't like the cold temperature. :D

All the buttons will light up when the lights are turn on and I guess I should have said that the screen has some kind of back light come on but there is nothing that shows up on the display. Rear entertainment system still works and all steering wheel controls work except radio controls. I'll tear it apart this weekend and screw with it more, anyone ever experienced this before?

Hmm, I don't really know those systems well, but you can try to see if the display is turning on. Like you said, the back light may not be working..
Take a flash light to the screen and see if it's really black, or if you can see the image very dimly.

Bump... someone out there has to have experienced this, any help is much appreciated!

I sometimes turn mine off and its a black screen with sound only. Try touching the screen to turn back on. Its a spot on the screen under menu to turn off display and touch screen anywhere to turn back on .

Sounds like I have the same problem. Let me know if you find a fix.

I had another issue so I took my Ex to the dealership an had them look at the radio while it was there. It looks like fuse 41 under the hood blew and took the radio with it.
Looked at a bunch of aftermarket ones and was not satisfied with the options. Jeez the boot times of the aftermarkets are 30 to 45 sec that is ridiculous and I don't need all the stuff. Just a radio and a NAV.
The dealer can replace with another OEM (6 CD, radio, NAV) for $600 installed. The wife liked that option best so the OEM is back.
